The Tunas Gemilang program for this year that was conducted from 3rd July-18th August managed to test 76,403 school children aged 7-11 years old throughout the nation. All states went through the testing except for Johor and Labuan. The TID Department is still in the process of discussion for the implementation of TG for these two states. All data collected will be analyzed and the results will be out on the 15th November 2009.
As a follow up for the Tunas Gemilang testing, a few programs has been identified as a follow-up program for the talented children that will be selected:
1. Little Champs Camp (20th-24th December 2009) in Kemaman, Terengganu.
The objective of this camp is to give early sports exposure to 130 young talented children aged 7-11 years old. The sports involved would be: archery, badminton and soccer. This camp would be officiated by our Youth & Sports Minister, Dato' Ahmad Shabery bin Cheek. The participants of this camp is chosen based on the Tunas Gemilang tests conducted recently in Terengganu.
2. Sukan Teras Program under Jabatan Belia Negeri (JBN)
A small percentage (5-10%) of selected pool of talented children from the TG program will be placed under the Sukan Teras Program by the Jabatan Belia Negeri in every state. The JBN will supervise the training program for the selected children.
3. Athletes Foundation Program through Multilateral
After all data entry and data analysis process is done, the selected children would be placed under a multilateral program in their respective schools. The children would be trained under the supervision of facilitators who are actually their physical education teachers. The teachers would have to undergo a special multilateral course organized by our TID Department in January 2010 and go back to their schools to train the selected children starting from February 2010. An official written report will have to be sent to the TID Department once a month to update the progress of these children. The schools that will be selected for this program will be decided later after an official meeting with the Bahagian Sukan, Seni & Ko-Kurikulum (BSSK) sometime end of November this year.
The Tunas Gemilang program this year used a different approach compared to the previous one where now we are collaborating with the Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia through BSSK. This approach is seen as most suitable as we are getting very good cooperation from the physical education teachers to help conduct the TG tests in schools. The TID Department would like to thank all that was involved and gave full support and cooperation for the Tunas Gemilang program for this year.
